Primary Teeth: Your Child and You

Even before you can see them, your baby’s twenty primary teeth are in their jaw waiting to break through. At Just for Kids Dentistry in Las Vegas, we can make sure they come in healthy and stay that way.

In most babies, the teeth start coming in between six months and one year of age. All twenty are usually in by the time the child reaches birthday number three. We’re all different, of course, but the top and bottom front teeth usually come in first.

There is usually some discomfort when those teeth are coming in. You can help ease teething pain in a couple of different ways:

  • Using your finger, gently rub your child’s gums
  • Give him or her a cool, wet gauze pad
  • Give him or her a cool spoon
  • Try a teething ring

Baby teeth act as  placeholders for the permanent teeth that come in later. But they are just as important. Aside from the obvious – chewing and smiling – they also help youngsters form words.

You should bring your child in for a checkup as soon as the first tooth comes in. We’ll make sure everything is developing as it should, answer any questions you may have, and give you some tips on cleaning them properly.

Good oral care during early childhood gets your baby started on a lifetime of good dental health. And at Just For Kids Dentistry in Las Vegas, we are here to help them along the way. We specialize in pediatric dentistry. Schedule a cleaning and checkup with us today!
