Dental sealants are a thin protective coating we can apply to teeth. We apply it to the chewing surfaces of the molars and harden it with a special blue light. The entire process only takes a few minutes start-to-finish, and is completely painless.

The molars are especially susceptible to tooth decay because of their rough, uneven surfaces covered in grooves. Food debris easily collects in them and, once it breaks down, can cause cavities.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the application of dental sealants nearly triples resistance to tooth decay. That’s quite an improvement!

Dental sealants last an average of about two years. We’ll check them at every appointment, and when the time comes we can re-apply them.
