Conscious Sedation
What does it mean?
It is a controlled, pharmacologically induced, minimally depressed level of
consciousness that retains the patient’s ability to maintain an airway
independently. The child is awake during the procedure.
Why does my child need to be sedated?
The doctor recommends sedation for patients who require dental care but are
moderately fearful and anxious and cannot cooperate for treatment. It is also
recommended for patients who require extensive or complicated dental treatment.
The
goals of sedation in the pediatric dental patient are to:
1. Facilitate the provision of quality care
2. Promote a positive psychological response to treatment
3. Promote patient welfare and safety
Will my child be monitored at all times?
Yes, the doctor will monitor and record all required vital signs. For your
childs safety we will use Nitrous oxide/oxygen during the procdure.
Dr. Abrams is certified by the state of Nevada to provide this service.
