For Las Vegas Parents: Cavities In Children

Cavities can form any age, so it’s essential that children begin seeing a dentist as soon as their teeth come in. At Just For Kids Dentistry in Las Vegas, we recommend youngsters see the dentist between the ages of one and two years.

Studies show that about twenty percent of American kids between the ages of five and eleven have at least one untreated cavity. That’s a serious matter. Untreated cavities not only cause pain and infections; they can also lead to problems in a child’s daily activities, including learning.

With that in mind, remember that while cavities may be a fact of life, they don’t have to happen. Children who drink fluoridated water don’t get as many cavities as those who don’t. And kids who brush their teeth with a fluoridated toothpaste likewise don’t get as many cavities.

Furthermore, dental sealants can prevent cavities for many years. Most dentists can apply a sealant to the chewing surfaces of teeth, especially the back teeth. Doing so can prevent up to eighty percent of cavities.
